§ 30. Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the President of the Board of Trade the date 736 on which he proposes to commence negotiations with the Norwegian Government for a revision of the trade agreement; and whether he can give the assurance that imports of Norwegian herring will be restricted to an extent that will meet the widespread representations recently made on behalf of this national industry and British fishermen?
§ Captain WallaceI am sorry I am not at present in a position to say when negotiations will take place for the modification of the Trade Agreement with Norway; but I can assure the hon. Member that the representations which have been received regarding the importation of Norwegian herrings will be borne in mind in any such negotiations.
§ Mr. MacMillanMay I take it that I have the assurance that the negotiations are not to be delayed owing to too sympathetic consideration of the interests of the opposition in Hull?
§ Captain WallaceI am afraid that the hon. Member cannot have any more assurances than the one I have given him.
