HC Deb 21 January 1937 vol 319 c333
36. Major Hills

asked the Minister of Health whether he will suggest to local authorities and others the desirability of marking the Coronation year by improving the appearance and the condition of houses and other buildings by a general repainting and redecoration, and of beginning the work forthwith so as to stimulate employment during the slack months of the year and to prevent congestion of orders at a later date?

Sir K. Wood

I do not think this is a matter in which I could usefully approach the local authorities, but I have no doubt that the advantages resulting from repainting and redecoration as suggested will be generally appreciated by local authorities and the public. The consideration referred to in the latter part of the question will, I am sure, not be overlooked.
