HC Deb 19 January 1937 vol 319 c21
39. Mr. Turton

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the number of cattle receiving subsidy during the years ending 31st December, 1934, 1935, and 1936?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

The number of cattle in respect of which subsidy was paid during the year ending 31st December, 1934, was 446,054. This relates to a period of four months only, as subsidy payments were not made until 1st September of that year. The figures for the years ending 31st December, 1935 and 1936, were respectively 1,582,429 and 1,707,989.

Mr. G. Griffiths

Can the right hon. Gentleman tell us how much time was spent on the means test committee inquiring into this?
