§ 51. Mr. Lambertasked the Minister of Health whether any examination is made by his Department of the conditions under which such products as Russian butter and Chinese eggs, imported for food in this country, are produced; and, if not, this will such examination be instituted?
§ Sir K. WoodNo, Sir. On the information at present before me, no such examination appears to be necessary, the examination of samples which have been specially undertaken by the Ministry have revealed no disease-producing organism in the liquid eggs or butter referred to.
§ Mr. LambertIf no examination takes place, how can this food be really certified as suitable food to come into this country?
§ Sir K. WoodMy right hon. Friend has asked me to look into the conditions. I prefer to keep my eye on the eggs.
§ Mr. LambertHow can eggs produced under unsatisfactory conditions abroad be certified as proper food to come into this country?
§ Sir K. WoodAs far as my examinations are concerned they have shown that they carry no disease-producing organisms, but if the right hon. Gentleman has any special egg which he would like me to examine, I will have it done.
