§ Mr. ShakespeareThe total number of public elementary schools (which include central schools) in England and Wales is 20,875. As regards the second part of the question, the board have note of 60 cases since 1929 of new public elementary schools where the plans as finally approved included the provision of a separate gymnasium. In the absence of a gymnasium, school halls have in many cases been equipped for gymnastic work.
