HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 c1173
35. Lieut.-Colonel Moore

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether there are any factories for producing aeroplanes or aeroplane parts in Scotland; and whether the Air Ministry proposes to take any steps to encourage the development of such factories in the West of Scotland?

Sir V. Warrender

As regards the first part of the question, a factory for the manufacture of aeroplanes and aeroplane parts is in course of erection at Dumbarton. As regards the second part, information respecting the suitability of certain districts for aircraft manufacture has been given to manufacturers by the Air Ministry, but if my hon. and gallant Friend has any particular place in mind I would undertake to see that the attention of the aircraft industry was drawn to it.

Lieut.-Colonel Moore

In view of that kind offer, may I ask the hon. Gentleman to point out to his right hon. Friend that Ayrshire is particularly suitable both strategically and for other reasons?
