HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 cc1153-4
2. Mr. A. Henderson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the views of His Majesty's Government on the reform of the League of Nations have yet been conveyed to the German Government?

Viscount Cranborne

The views of His Majesty's Government on this subject have been publicly stated on various occasions, notably at the Assembly of the League on 25th September and in the House of Commons on 5th November.

Mr. Henderson

In view of that answer, is it the opinion of the Government that it is not impossible for the German Government to answer the British questionnaire?

Viscount Cranborne

It is certainly the desire of the British Government that any steps should be taken that might lead to the resumption of negotiations.

Mr. Henderson

In view of the statement made by Herr Hitler on 3oth January that the British Government would be satisfied with the reasons why they have not answered the questionnaire, and as those reasons do not operate now in view of the answer of the Noble Lord, will he convey a copy of his answer to Herr Hitler?
