29. Mr. Creech Jonesasked the Home Secretary whether any further consideration has been given to the provision of an alternative modern and sanitary prison in the place of Pentonville?
§ Sir J. SimonThis question has been frequently considered, but in view of the difficulty of providing alternative accommodation I am unable to hold out any prospect that it will be possible to discontinue the use of Pentonville Prison. I recognise that it would be advantageous if another prison could be opened in a less crowded area, but I know of no reason for complaint as to the sanitary condition of Pentonville.
