HC Deb 03 February 1937 vol 319 cc1600-1
80. Mr. Gordon Macdonald

asked the Minister of Labour the number of cases now being dealt with by the unemployment assistance boards throughout Lancashire; the number that have had reductions; and the number that have had increases in their determinations in consequence of the new regulations?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead)

During the week ended 15th January last the numbers of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance allowances in Lancashire was 104,564, of whom about 47,000 were receiving more and 47 were receiving less than they would have received under the Standstill arrangements.

Mr. Thorne

Is it not desirable to issue a White Paper showing the gains and losses in all parts of the country on the lines of this question?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

I do not think that that is necessary at the moment.
