HC Deb 22 December 1937 vol 330 c1976
76. Mr. C. Wilson

asked the First Commissioner of Works whether he is aware that his predecessor gave an undertaking to a deputation that no permission would be accorded by his Department for an application for a licence to sell drink in any Royal park unless the drink was purchased along with a meal; and whether any and what changes have taken place which necessitate a departure from this policy?

The First Commissioner of Works (Sir Philip Sassoon)

There is no record in my Department of such an undertaking. The consent of the licensing justices must be obtained before any change in the present arrangements can be made, and, as I stated in reply to a question on 13th December, I see no ground for objecting to the refreshment caterers making an application to the justices.
