HC Deb 22 December 1937 vol 330 cc1951-2
19. Mr. Day

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty the number of ships in the Navy at present driven by coal power; and whether any of these ships have been using pulverised fuel?

Mr. Cooper

Excluding small auxiliary craft such as trawlers and drifters, there are at present 50 vessels of the Royal Navy fitted to burn coal. None of them is fitted to burn pulverised coal.

Mr. Day

Are further experiments being made with pulverised coal?

Mr. Cooper

I think that such experiments as have been made have already convinced the authorities that pulverised coal is not desirable as a fuel.
