HC Deb 21 December 1937 vol 330 c1777
63. Mr. Kelly

asked the Home Secretary the number of boys aged 14 to 16 years who are employed at Scotland Yard?

Sir S. Hoare

Forty-four boys of 14 and under 17 are employed under the Commissioner of Police and Receiver for the Metropolitan Police District, almost all of them in the engineering and printing departments. Only 15 of them are employed at Scotland Yard itself.

Mr. Kelly

Are the boys in the printing department employed upon the printing of the details of some of those cases which shock most people when they read them?

Sir S. Hoare

I cannot answer without notice, but I will look into the question.

Mr. Kelly

If they are so employed will the right hon. Gentleman take action, as it is hardly work which is suitable for boys?
