HC Deb 21 December 1937 vol 330 c1756
18. Mr. Davidson

asked the Secretary for Mines whether he is aware that the Scottish Coalowners' Committee have again intimated increases in the price of fuel supplies for municipal and public utility undertakings; if he has considered the representations from the Glasgow Corporation Electricity Committee protesting against a further advance of 2s. per ton for next year's supplies and suggesting that the Coal Mines Act should be amended to make it possible for consumers to be represented on the committee empowered to fix prices; and what action does he propose to take?

Captain Crookshank

I was not aware of these price increases, and I have received no representations in the matter from the Glasgow Corporation electricity committee. If that committee considers that the increases are unfair, they should lodge a complaint with the Scottish Committee of Investigation.

Mr. Radford

Is it not a fact that under the terms of the Coal Mines Act, 1930, one-half of the committee of investigation, other than the chairman, has to be there in the interests of consumers?

Captain Crookshank

Yes, that is the case.
