HC Deb 21 December 1937 vol 330 c1779
70. Sir N. Grattan-Doyle

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to the difficulties arising from the absence of any provision giving local authorities power to cancel or withdraw a demolition order when the local authority considers such step desirable; and whether he will propose an amendment of Sub-section 1 of Section 13 of the Housing Act, 1936, so as to give local authorities such power?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health (Mr. Bernays)

My right hon. Friend's attention has been drawn to one or two individual cases where proposals have been submitted after orders have become operative. The question was considered by the Central Housing Advisory Committee who did not recommend any alteration in the law, and my hon. Friend will, I think, appreciate the difficulties involved by a proposal to give a local authority discretion to vary an order when it has once been confirmed.
