HC Deb 21 December 1937 vol 330 c1749
4. Mr. Mathers

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is now in a position to state the attitude of the Edinburgh Education Committee towards the proposal to place a commemorative tablet to Clarinda on the wall of Bristo school?

Mr. Elliot

I am informed that the Edinburgh Education Committee decided yesterday to grant facilities for the commemorative tablet to be placed on the wall of the school referred to.

Mr. Mathers

May I thank the right hon. Gentleman for his personal interest in this matter, and ask him whether he will be good enough to let it be known to some of his colleagues behind him that Clarinda was a lady whom Robert Burns met in Edinburgh, and to whom he wrote two of the finest love songs in the language?
