HC Deb 20 December 1937 vol 330 c1597
36. Mr. Perkins

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether in view of the fact that the overall gradients of Croydon airport are greater than those laid down by the Air Ministry as necessary for a standard aerodrome, it is proposed to continue air services from this airport during 1938?

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead)

Yes, Sir. Minor land levelling operations are in progress and will be continued, but the circumstances at present do not call for a general re-levelling of the whole surface, which would necessitate the aerodrome being out of use for a considerable period.

Mr. Perkins

Will these new levelling operations result in the aerodrome being good enough for the Air Ministry standard?

Lieut.-Colonel Muirhead

At the present moment it is not considered that the deviation from the Air Ministry's standard is actually dangerous.
