HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 c1322
37. Mr. Hollins

asked the Home Secretary whether he will consider the making of special regulations under the Factories Act, 1937, Section 11 (1) (c), for young persons about to be employed in the pottery industry in the processes coming under the Various Industries (Silicosis) Scheme, 1928, in which there is a high incidence of silicosis, giving rise to a great risk of injury to the health of young persons?

Mr. Lloyd

Medical examination of young persons entering employment in various processes in the pottery industry is already required under the Silicosis Medical Arrangements Scheme, and the question of amending that scheme to extend the requirement to additional processes is under consideration. I am advised that this will probably be found a more appropriate way of dealing with the matter.
