HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 cc1317-8
79. Sir N. Grattan-Doyle

asked the Minister of Transport what number of committees and other official bodies are engaged upon inquiries into, and giving advice upon, road traffic problems?

Mr. Burgin

There are three such committees. Parliament has by statute provided for two advisory bodies, the Transport Advisory Council (set up under Section 46 of the Road and Rail Traffic Act, 1933) and the London and Home Counties Traffic Advisory Committee (set up under Section 1 of the London Traffic Act, 1924, as amended by Section 58 of the London Passenger Transport Act, 1933). There is a Standing Committee known as the Experimental Work on Highways (Technical) Committee which advises me upon technical matters concerning experimental work and full scale tests on roads. As my hon. Friend will be aware, it has recently been decided in another place to appoint a Select Committee to inquire into the steps which can be taken to reduce road accidents.
