HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 cc1328-9
46. Mr. Perkins

asked the Prime Minister whether he will give an assurance that evidence given by civil servants before the Cadman Committee will not be used in any way against them or communicated without their consent to anyone in the Department?

The Prime Minister

I have already stated on 30th November that the inquiry by the Cadman Committee will be a private one and that evidence given before it will not be made public. In these circumstances, I think it is clear that the apprehensions implied in the last part of my hon. Friend's question are groundless.

Mr. Perkins

Can the Prime Minister say what will be the position of a civil servant under the Official Secrets Act?

The Prime Minister

Perhaps the hon. Member will put that question down.
