HC Deb 14 December 1937 vol 330 cc979-80
44. Mr. Mander

asked the hon. Member for Swansea, as representing the Charity Commissioners, when he expects to be in a position to make a statement with regard to the work of his Department for the past year?

Mr. Lewis Jones (Charity Commissioner)

The eighty-fourth report of the Charity Commissioners for the year 1936 was made to His Majesty at the end of March last, and a copy of this report was on 30th March last forwarded to the Clerk of the House of Commons to be laid before the House. The eighty-fifth report of the Charity Commissioners for the year 1937 will be made at the end of March next.

Mr. Mander

In view of the grave matters committed to the charge of my hon. Friend, does he not think that we ought to have one full day's discussion on this matter, and would he not himself come down to open the Debate on it?

Mr. Jones

If the hon. Gentleman cared, with his proverbial assiduity, to press this matter in those quarters which are known as "the usual channels," I should be most happy to do so.
