HC Deb 14 December 1937 vol 330 cc965-6
9. Mr. Short

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he is aware that the Canadian Government are refusing permits for the import of cattle from Great Britain; whether this is due to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease; whether he is aware that exporters have cattle waiting for export at the ports; and whether representations are being made?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I am glad to say that the Canadian Government have recently intimated that, following upon the removal, on 9th December, of the foot-and-mouth disease Standstill Order which was in force in certain parts of Great Britain, they are prepared to grant permits for the import into Canada of United Kingdom cattle, through the London quarantine station.
