HC Deb 08 December 1937 vol 330 cc390-1
70. Mr. Edwards

asked the Minister of Transport whether, for economic and strategic reasons, he will discourage the further extension of London docks by the Port of London Authority, and divert as much traffic as possible to northern ports?

Mr. Burgin

Parliament has given me no power to control the policy of the Port of London Authority in regard to the extension of the London docks, nor can I interfere with the discretion of traders as to the ports through which they decide to send their traffic.

Mr. Craven-Ellis

Will the committee which is considering the geographical distribution of the industrial population bear in mind the position of our ports?
