HC Deb 29 April 1937 vol 323 c532
59. Mr. Wakefield

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether methods for preventing the formation of ice on aeroplanes by chemical means are being investigated; and, if so, whether such means appear to be more promising than the devices for de-icing, which allow the ice to form and then endeavour to break it off?

The Under-Secretary of State for Air (Sir Philip Sassoon)

A large number of chemical substances have been tested as ice preventatives and experiments continue. At present it cannot be said that methods employing chemical substances are superior to mechanical devices for deicing.
