asked the Secretary of State for War in what parts of the Empire British soldiers still pay out of their own pockets money to supplement the issued daily rations?

The improvements in rations and ration allowances introduced from 1st April, 1937, should render unnecessary any personal expenditure by soldiers on the Imperial establishment towards their messing. The question of applying these improvements to British service personnel in India and Burma is, I understand, still under consideration.
