HC Deb 26 April 1937 vol 323 c14
8. Mr. Moreing (for Mr. Chorlton)

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information about the China Vegetable Oil Corporation; whether the controlling interest in the corporation is held by the Chinese Government; and whether it is the policy of the corporation to enter into competition with private traders in the marketing of wood oil?

Viscount Cranborne

Yes, Sir, I have keen kept informed by His Majesty's Ambassador in China on the subject. The controlling interest in the corporation appears in practice to be held by the Chinese Government. From such indications of the corporation's policy as can be discerned at present, it appears possible that it may undertake the marketing of wood oil as soon as it is in a position to build up the necessary organisation.
