HC Deb 26 April 1937 vol 323 cc15-6
25. Mr. V. Adams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has any information concerning the proposals of the Rumanian Government to enact legislation discriminating against the employment of members of the minorities in Rumania to the extent of fixing a compulsory minimum of 75 per cent. of employés of so-called Rumanian ethnical origin; and whether the Secretary of State will make it clear that such a measure would contravene the Minorities treaty to which Great Britain is one of the signatories?

Viscount Cranborne

I understand that a Bill to this effect was discussed in the Rumanian Press for some time, but was not proceeded with by the Government, as it was pronounced illegal by the Legislative Council.
