HC Deb 22 April 1937 vol 322 cc1892-3
10. Mr. J. Griffiths

asked the Minister of Labour what is the number of the staff employed at each of the area offices of the Unemployment Assistance Board in Wales; what proportion of the members of the staff are able to speak Welsh; and whether, in making appointments to the staff, regard is had to the ability of the applicants to speak the Welsh language?

Mr. E. Brown

As the first two parts of the question involve a table of figures I will, if I may, circulate the answer in the OFFICIAL REPORT. As regards the last part of the question, I am informed by the Board that in the allocation of staff full regard is had to the necessity for the appointment of Welsh-speaking officers to those areas where a knowledge of the Welsh language is required.
