Griffithsasked the Minister of Labour what is the number of the staff employed at each of the area offices of the Unemployment Assistance Board in Wales; what proportion of the members of the staff are able to speak Welsh; and whether, in making appointments to the staff, regard is had to the ability of the applicants to speak the Welsh language?
§ Mr. E. BrownAs the first two parts of the question involve a table of figures I will, if I may, circulate the answer in the OFFICIAL REPORT. As regards the last part of the question, I am informed by the Board that in the allocation of staff full regard is had to the necessity for the appointment of Welsh-speaking officers to those areas where a knowledge of the Welsh language is required.
