HC Deb 13 April 1937 vol 322 c792
72. Mr. W. Joseph Stewart

asked the Minister of Labour whether anything is being done towards the establishing of intermediate non-residential centres in Durham county which could be open to young men from 18 to 21 years of age; and are any buildings being erected or have any buildings been leased for this purpose in the north-east area?

The Minister of Labour (Mr. Ernest Brown)

The erection of a centre of this type at Spennymoor is almost complete, and it will be opened early in June. A site for a centre is being leased on the Team Valley Trading Estate at Gateshead and a third centre in the North-East Special Area is being erected near Walls-end; these two centres should be opened by the autumn.
