Mr. Denmanasked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936, has yet come into operation in the Irish Free State; and whether he will endeavour to obtain a report on the advantages or disadvantages which have so far been revealed by the 40-hour week for young persons with a view to the preparation of similar Measures by His Majesty's Government in this country?
Mr. M. MacDonaldI understand that the Act to which my hon. Friend refers came into force in the Irish Free State on 29th May, 1936. As regards the second part of his question, I am asking the Irish Free State Government whether there is any information which can conveniently be supplied regarding the operation of the provisions of the Act.
