asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether His Majesty's Government propose to concur in releasing Belgium from her provisional Locarno obligations of 19th March, 1936; and whether he will make a statement on the matter?

This matter is under active consideration, and my right hon. Friend hopes to be able to make a statement shortly.

Mr. Henderson

May we take it that a statement to this effect contained in some of the Government papers last week merely constituted intelligent anticipation?

It is a very delicate situation, and I hope that the hon. Gentleman will not ask me to anticipate the statement.
