HC Deb 06 April 1937 vol 322 c29
47. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Prime Minister whether the question of a redistribution of Parliamentary constituencies has been under review by the Government; and whether he can assure the House that any contemplated change will not take place within the lifetime of the present Parliament?

The Prime Minister

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative, and, as regards the second part, I cannot anticipate the work of future Sessions.

Mr. R. Robinson

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the House without dissent passed a Resolution calling on the Government to bring about early redistribution?

Sir A. Sinclair

When the Prime Minister is considering the question of redistribution, will he also consider the equally important question of electoral reform?

Sir John Mellor

Is the Prime Minister aware that the inequality of electorates is rapidly increasing?

Mr. Kennedy

Has the Prime Minister seen the Press reports stating that this matter has been under consideration by the Government, and is he now prepared to dissociate himself from these reports?

The Prime Minister

I have not seen the reports.
