HC Deb 06 April 1937 vol 322 cc6-7
9. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether he has any figures and can give particulars of the number of deportations of His Majesty's subjects from Canada to this country for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date; and will he give particulars of any representation:: that have been made by His Majesty's Government in Great Britain to His Majesty's Government in Canada in respect to the deportation of these migrants?

Marquess of Hartington

My right hon. Friend is informed that 148 British subjects were deported to the United Kingdom from Canada during 1936. No representations have been made by His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom to His Majesty's Government in Canada in respect of the deportation of these persons.

Mr. Day

Is it not a fact that most of the people who have been deported were induced to go to Canada from this country?
