51. Mr. SHORT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a statement respecting the reform of the League of Nations; and what changes, if any, have been. agreed upon?

Mr. EDEN

I have no general statement to make on the international situation. As regards the question of the reform of the League of Nations, the Assembly at its last session decided to set up a committee composed of the representatives of 28 States to study all the proposals which have been, or may be, made by the Governments regarding the application of the principles of the Covenant and the problems connected therewith. On the basis of this study, the committee, which is expected to meet in December, will prepare a report as soon as possible indicating the definite provisions, the adoption of which it recommends. This report will be circulated to the Governments of the States Members of the League to serve as a basis for the decisions to be taken in this matter.
