asked the Postmaster-General whether he can furnish an estimate of the percentage of the costs of the delivery of postal packets which arises from overhead expenses, from terminal charges, that is to say collection, sorting, and delivery, and from the conveyance of inland mails, respectively

The cost of handling inland letter mails may be apportioned roughly as follows: 53 per cent. collection, sorting and delivery, 7 per cent. conveyance, and 40 per cent. overhead expenses, that is, administration, supervision, accommodation, leave and pension liability.
