HC Deb 30 November 1936 vol 318 cc830-1
37. Mr. STOREY

asked the Postmaster-General what steps his Department take in order to compel the owner of electrical plant which interferes with the reception of broadcast programmes by receiving stations in the neighbourhood to instal suppression apparatus?

Major TRYON

I have no statutory power to compel owners of electrical plant which causes interference with broadcast reception to instal suppression apparatus, although in such cases efforts are made by my Department to discover a remedy and to persuade the persons concerned to avail themselves of it. A committee appointed by the Institution. of Electrical Engineers has recently investigated the subject and has recommended that statutory powers should be sought. The committee's recommendations are at present under consideration.
