HC Deb 24 November 1936 vol 318 c234
77. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether there is any information in the possession of his Department showing whether Arab discontent in Palestine is due to internal causes only, or not?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

As the underlying causes of the recent disturbances in Palestine are a matter to be inquired into by the Royal Commission, I think it would be improper for me to attempt to analyse them while the commission is engaged on its inquiry into them.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Has the right hon. Gentleman received the confidential reports sent him by the air service in Palestine?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I have seen some of them.

Mr. GALLACHER

Is the basic cause of the trouble not the promise made to the Arabs during the War and the contradictory promise made to the Jews?
