HC Deb 23 November 1936 vol 318 cc15-6
40. Mr. E. SMITH

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps are being taken to deal with the effect on British shipbuilding of the arrangements reported on pages 116 and 117 of the report issued by the Overseas Trade Department on economic conditions in Germany?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Dr. Burgin)

I presume that the hon. Member has in mind the references in the report to orders placed for tonnage in German yards by British concerns as a means of liquidating frozen Marks. In this connection I have nothing to add to the reply given to the hon. and gallant Member for the Isle of Wight (Captain P. Macdonald) on 16th June.
