HC Deb 17 November 1936 vol 317 c1503
54. Captain MACNAMARA

asked the Secretary of State for War whether it is pointed out to recruits on joining that the majority of units in India require them to pay 1½ annas a day or more out of their own pockets to supplement their rations?

Mr. COOPER

No, Sir.

Captain MACNAMARA

Could not the War Office get in touch with the India Office and put a stop to these pinpricks, so that a soldier in India shall not suffer because the Government are afraid to tackle the Indian taxpayer?

Mr. COOPER

I can assure the hon. and gallant Member that every effort will be made in that direction.
