HC Deb 16 November 1936 vol 317 c1305
1. Mr. GALLAGHER

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that on 26th September police searched the offices of the All India Congress Committee in Allahabad and seized and removed all copies of old and new numbers of the "Congress News Letter," together with papers and circulars relating to the Civil Liberties Union; by whom and under what powers this search warrant was issued; and whether this seizure is an indication that His Majesty's Government are opposed to the publishing of news from India?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply given to a question by the Member for Caerphilly (Mr. Morgan Jones) on 9th November, to which I have nothing to add.
