HC Deb 11 November 1936 vol 317 cc850-1
19. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies the approximate additional military expenditure incurred in Palestine as a result of the strike called by the Arab Higher Committee; what part of this expenditure will be borne by the British Government; and what part will fall upon the Government of Palestine?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Ormsby-Gore)

It is not possible at the present stage to give a reliable estimate of the cost of the reinforcements sent to Palestine, or consequently of the amounts which may fall to be borne by His Majesty's Government and the Palestine Government respectively.

Captain MACDONALD

Is the whole of this cost to be borne by His Majesty's Government, or will it be shared by the Palestine Government?

Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

I answered a question on that point put by my hon. and gallant Friend; it is to be shared.
