HC Deb 10 November 1936 vol 317 cc688-9
43. Mr. DAY

asked the Secretary for Mines the amount of money still in hand belonging to the Miners' Welfare Fund and how much of this has been distributed during the previous 12 months?

Captain CROOKSHANK

The balance (investments at cost and cash in hand) of the Miners' Welfare Fund at 31st October last was £1,894,380, of which £1,324,532 has already been allocated to definite projects. During the previous 12 months, £926,968 was allocated for approved purposes and £790,090 was actually disbursed.

Mr. DAY

Can the Minister say whether the surplus is earmarked for any special purpose?

Captain CROOKSHANK

I cannot say without notice for what the £1,300,000 has been allotted, but if the hon. Gentleman would like to put a question down, I will try to secure the information.

Mr. DAY

Can the Minister not say whether the surplus has been earmarked for any special purpose?
