HC Deb 10 November 1936 vol 317 c678
28. Lieut.-Colonel C. KERR

asked the Secretary of State for War the numbers of Regular soldiers who complete their term of service each year and become available for other employment?

Mr. COOPER

The numbers vary according to the recruit intake six or seven years before, but the average for the past three years has been between 16,000 and 17,000.

Lieut.-Colonel KERR

In view of that reply, may I ask whether my right hon. Friend would consider some scheme to guarantee employment for these men after they leave the Service?

Mr. COOPER

I am doing so.

Mr. GEORGE GRIFFITHS

Is it not a fact that the majority of these men have to have six weeks' holiday because they have been fed on margarine?
