HC Deb 10 November 1936 vol 317 cc664-5
1. Sir PERCY HURD

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether his attention has been called to the suggestion of representatives of the governments of the Dominions that, seeing how nearly identical the interests of primary producers of the homeland and the Dominions are now becoming, a consultative committee of Empire producers should be set up to consider an Empire policy in relation to primary production; and whether he will invite the governments of the Dominions to co-operate in the early assembly of such a committee?

The SECRETARY of STATE for DOMINION AFFAIRS (Mr. Malcolm MacDonald)

If any suggestions of the nature, indicated by my hon. Friend were put to me by representatives of His Majesty's Governments in the Dominions, I should of course be prepared to consider them. No such suggestions have in fact been made by them.

Sir P. HURD

Does not my right hon. Friend think that the importance of the matter would entitle him to make some suggestion on his own account?
