HC Deb 10 November 1936 vol 317 c694
49. Sir F. SANDERSON

asked the Prime Minister whether, in view of the difference in the recollections of the Secretary of State for Air and of Lord Nuffield as to what took place at an important interview between them, as reported on page 5, paragraph 3, of Command Paper No. 5295, he will consider the advisability of installing dictaphones to be used for providing a permanent and accurate record of proceedings at important interviews between Members of the Government and other persons?

The PRIME MINISTER

I do not think that the proposal of my hon. Friend would assist in the conduct of official business.

Sir F. SANDERSON

Does not my right hon. Friend consider that conversations which take place between Ministers of the Government and responsible persons outside should be recorded?

The PRIME MINISTER

I have not much fault to find with the present system. I do not think that this would help matters at all.

Mr. GALLACHER

Would the Prime Minister consider removing the human dictaphones from Communist party meetings?
