§ 78. Mr. A. HENDERSONasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of reparations paid in cash to the Allied Governments by the German Government, and the total amount of the various German loans raised in the United States, France and Great Britain during the years 1920–34?
§ Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLEThe total payments made in cash by or for account of Germany for reparation and cost of occupation, as recorded in the accounts of the Reparation Committee and the Bank for International Settlements, amount to 7,691 million gold marks. The Financial Committee which met at Basle in August, 1931, published figures showing that during the years 1924 to 1930 the net amount which Germany borrowed abroad in one way or another amounted to 18,200 million reichsmarks, which included long-term loans issued in the United States of America, France and Great Britain to the nominal value of 6,840 million reichsmarks. Figures for loans issued during the complete period 1920 to 1934 are not available, but would probably not differ substantially from those for the period 1924 to 1930.
§ Mr. HENDERSONWill the hon. and gallant Gentleman request the Foreign Secretary to send a copy of that reply, with his compliments, to General Goering?
§ Sir A. M. SAMUELWill the hon. and gallant Gentleman also see that the reply is published in the Continental papers, so that the German public may see it?
