HC Deb 09 November 1936 vol 317 cc501-2
48. Mr. DAY

asked the Postmaster-General whether postmen delivering parcels on the cash-on-delivery system carry any sums of money for the purpose of giving change when delivering this particular type of parcel; and whether he can state the number of parcels that have not been delivered at the first delivery for the 12 months ended to the last convenient date?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Major Tryon)

Postmen delivering cash-on-delivery parcels are not supplied with change, but if they can give change they do so. I have no precise information as to the number of cash-on-delivery parcels which are not delivered at the first attempt, but the proportion is not large.

Mr. DAY

Is the postman instructed to try to deliver them a second time?

Major TRYON

I could not hear the hon. Member's question.
