HC Deb 05 November 1936 vol 317 c236
74. Mr. HARDIE

asked the President of the Board of Trade what steps he proposes to take to prevent the decks of passenger steamers from West Loch Tarbert to Islay, Gigha and Jura being crowded with motor cars, to the inconvenience of passengers and making any approach to the lifeboats impossible in case of need?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Runciman)

I am making inquiries and will communicate the result to the hon. Member as soon as possible.

Mr. HARDIE

As the public are much concerned with what happened last year, will the right hon. Gentleman say whether it is illegal to obstruct the way to any lifeboat or other apparatus for the safety of people on board ship, and, if so, whether that is the case or not?

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I cannot say any-think more now than I have said in the answer already given.
