HC Deb 05 November 1936 vol 317 cc238-9
53. Mr LEACH

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the fact that 11 Import Duties Orders were made by the Treasury during the Recess based upon the recommendations of the Import Duties Advisory Committee, most of them at an early date, giving the maximum time of operation pending Parliamentary ratification, he will undertake not to issue such Orders in the future during any of the long Adjournments of this House?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. I am not prepared to give such undertaking.

Mr. LEACH

Can the right hon. Gentleman give us an assurance that the consideration of this mass of Orders will be undertaken before 11 or 11.30 p.m. and not at a late hour as is now very frequently the case?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

No, Sir. I am not in a position to give any such undertaking.

57. Mr. H. G. WILLIAMS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the report of the Import Duties Advisory Committee on the application in respect of milk products has reached him; and when it will be published?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The report has been received and is still under consideration.

Mr. WILLIAMS

How long is it since this report was received? Was it received six months ago?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I think not so long as that. It was received some time ago.
