HC Deb 27 May 1936 vol 312 cc1996-7
22. Commander BOWER (for Lieut.-Colonel WICKHAM)

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether he is aware of the fact that the Navy List contains no vessel named "Blake"; and whether he will consider repairing this omission by giving to one of the recently sanctioned battleships the name of this great admiral?

Mr. LINDSAY

I am pleased to assure the hon. and gallant Member that this illustrious name will receive careful consideration when names for future ships are being selected.

Commander BOWER

Is it not a fact-that Blake was never an admiral, but that, like the hon. and gallant Member for Bournemouth (Sir H. Croft), he was a general at sea?

Mr. GARRO JONES

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this great general and admiral was also a Member of this House, representing one of the rotten boroughs?
