HC Deb 27 May 1936 vol 312 cc2015-6
64. Mr. BARCLAY-HARVEY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that, owing to the heavy imports of main-crop potatoes, sales of home potatoes in parts of Scotland are at a standstill: and what steps he is prepared to take to reduce the importation of main-crop potatoes?

Dr. BURGIN

I would remind my hon. Friend that the imports of potatoes are regulated month by month. Temporary market fluctuation may, however, be unavoidable. I understand that the quotas fixed for main-crop potatoes up to the end of May this year have not so far been fully used. As regards the second part of the question, the quotas for the months June to August are on a considerably lower level then those for earlier months.
